Anyone still waiting for 2022 citizenship decission?

Post by adeels84 » Thu Mar 12, 2026 4:45 pm

I am at my wits' end. Straightforward application, no criminal record, no dole ever. Always worked and paid taxes, and I'm still waiting for a decision on an application from 11/2022.
I submitted a freedom of information/subject access request and gave an ultimatum: I would take them to court if they did not provide a decision.
They had me do the Garda vetting again because the last one had expired, and then they just came back with a generic response:
"It is recognised that all applicants for citizenship would wish to have a decision on their application without delay. The nature of the naturalisation process is such that, for a broad range of reasons, some cases will take longer than others to process. In some instances, completing the necessary checks can take a considerable period of time. While it is not possible to give an exact timeframe, this office will be in touch as soon as a decision has been reached."

I was fully ready to take them to court, but my solicitor said that they would just say the same exact thing in court, and I would be left with the court fees.

Asked my TD to write to them and they got the exact same response. I wrote to the Justice minister and they sent an email to the department on my behalf.. and you guessed it, exact same response..

This is harming my mental health at this stage. Like either reject it or accept it, what's with this horrible limbo situation?

Anyone else in this situation, too? Can we do something here?
