Employment status at the time of HSMP extension

hi,

Anyone who has applied for hsmp visa extension (Tier 1 General) while being unemployed at that time, please share the experience.
Moreover can anyone share the experience, if he/she applied for extension 3 months or so prior to expiry date of hsmp visa.
