bank balance after application

Post by mr_roboto » Thu Jun 18, 2009 1:30 pm

Just a quick question - and wondering how worried I should be.

I posted an application about 1 1/2 weeks ago. As far as I know, everything should be fine (knock on wood). For the maintenance requreiments, I figured it was safer to maintain a bank balance in excess of £800 until I heard back. Unfortunately today, I found out that I was the victim of some dodgy bank transactions on my account yesterday. Although the transactions were reversed today, this meant that my balance was slightly below the £800 at the close of business yesterday.

How big a problem is this? Clearly none of this drama is reflected in the paper application I submitted two weeks ago, but would be revealed should the HO ring up my bank and ask for daily transactions since then. Does anyone know if this is a common occurence? Has anyone ever been declined a visa on the grounds of maintenance on bank details AFTER the application?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

You should be fine. Can't you ask the Bank to reverse the entries on the same day? Afterall you stand to lose out on interest for no fault of yours.

Thanks for your response -- I was going to take your advice and speak to the bank, but I guess all's well that ends well, as I just got my approval in this morning's post. They're really flying through the applications now, it seems. It took less than two weeks from start to finish. Funnily, I was bemoaning my sorry lot in life with some mates Thursday night fully mired in some proper good self-pity when it was pointed out to me that I was actually lucky (!) because this could have happened to me just a week or so BEFORE I intended to submit my application. I suppose he's right as that could have been far more complicated, so I guess every cloud has a silver lining. Now to deal with my compromised debit card... arrrgh.

Thanks to you and everyone else on these forums who provide such helpful advice on various topics. I know it has helped me considerably when I submitted the application :)

Thats good news. Forget about what could possibly have happened. You now have the VISA and this is what matters!!

I guess there is no harm in being ultra-conservative when it comes to VISA applications as you might be subjected to immenese mental stress and in some cases miss-out immportant opportunities due to a delay or rejection due to certain aspects (which you could have obviated in the first place). Congratulations. Hope to see you around helping out others....
