EC Approved Dublin

Post by f2k » Sat May 28, 2005 7:40 am

Glad to let you all know that my EC was approved in Dublin. Thanks very much everyone for all the information on this forum. I arrived at the Embassy at 6.45am to find only 6 people in the queue. Doors were opened at 8.30 and we were let into the embassy premises one at a time, sat in the waiting room, the windows were opened just after 9am. didnt wait long to be served (about 15minutes). handed over documents to the ECO who briefly took a look at them and entered some details into the computer, read the approval letter in detail and checked the name corresponded with that in passport, were then referred to a second window were the ECO there was doubling as the cashier, paid €239 (€117x2 +€5 for registered mail even though i had brought a prepaid swiftpost envelope). She took everything and told us to expect the passports in the next 10 working days. Anyway glad to say that I tracked the package on the post office website and found that it was dispatched on wednesday morning. Got the package back with all the documents with Thursday's post, with EC stamped for both me and spouse from the 24th may 2005 to 24 /05/2006 (did not ask for post dated)
Submitted
VAF1 Forms (self and spouse)
Passports and 2 Photos each (they only took one photo for each applicant)
HSMP letter (approved 16 May 2005)
Job offer letter
Bank statements (savings account with €16000 approximately £11k)
Letter of accommodation from cousin in London
Spreadsheet showing budget for the year
Internet print outs of house/flat lettings. www.rightmove.com
Marriage certificate
Electricity bill (in spouses name)
NTL bill (cable tv) (in my name)

Thanks again to all those who provided information on the forum. My one advice to anyone applying for EC no matter what country you are applying from, is that do your research thoroughly especially on the issue of accommodation and funding, dont assume because you have £12k in the account you will get approval easily. you will need to show that you have a general idea of what your costs are going to be especially if you are applying without a job offer. Even the packaging of your supporting evidence should be neat and orderly put tags on you supporting documents. I did not put in a cover letter as i did not think it was necessary. also makesure you dont put documents that are irrelevent to the application.

i just carried the stuff from the HSMP application but they didnt ask.
On the issue of the accommodation letter, IMHO you coul end up putting a lot of doubt in the ECO mind and that is something you dont want to do. Is there a reason why your cousin cannot sign the letter, if it is a matter of postage, you could get them to fax it to you or they could scan it and then email it to you together with a utility bill. This is a very crucial bit of the application and i suggest you take due care when presenting your case

Congratulations f2k. I am also working in DUblin now and still waiting for HSMP.

DO you think the Embassy here can accept putting the EC starting date we want?

Because I am on a one-year contract here and I would like to go to UK as late as possible ;-)

Gulgon,
I believe they can give post dated EC
this is some text i copied from their website
DO NOT PURCHASE AIRTICKETS BEFORE YOU APPLY We take no responsibility for lost airfares on non-refundable tickets if your visa is not ready in time. Nor will we fast track your application because you have already purchased airtickets.

APPLY EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT Visas can be issued up to three months before your intended date of arrival in the UK.
But the think though with post dated EC is that you have to ask for it, even if you fill in the forms with a later start date, it will be good to makesure that the ECO notes down the date as well

Dj iv. Did you get your EC in the end. I was really worried when I took mine that it might take a long time as well. Do you know what the problem was
