Processing times for FMRS (Family Member Residence Stamp)?

Hello all,

Does anyone know recent processing/decision times for the FMRS? Is it possible for this to be done in two or three months? If I get my passport back and leave the country before I receive the stamp, what are the best documents to bring with me to allow me to return home to the UK?

Thanks to all in advance for your help. Reading this board has been a real resource.
