Query regarding funds

I am applying for post-study work visa as my student visa will expire on 31st of january 2010.As per Visa rules 800 pound balance has to be maintained for 3 months in bank account before applying.
My query is that do we need to maintain this 800 pound balance even after applying for the visa, untill we get the PSW visa?
If no then can we use the same 800 pounds to pay for the visa fee of 500 pounds?

I'm not sure about this

but my suggestion is that if i were you , i will not touch it in case the visa was rejected, therefore i can show it again
