British and USA - Ancestry, HSMP, ROA

Post by unixguru » Thu May 06, 2004 6:09 pm

I have a question about UK Immigration. First a little background. I was born in the US in 1971 to a British mother and US father. My mother still has her UK citizenship, also my granparents and 2 aunts and 4 uncles are UK nationals still living in the UK.

My question is do I qualify under the ancsetry or right of abode or do I need to pursue the HSMP route?

I qualify easily under the HSMP but would prefer to used ancestry or right of abode. Not really sure what to do.

Thanks In Advance for any help

Shaun

Was your mother born or naturalised in the UK? If yes - you can register as a British citizen. If her citizenship was by descent you are not entitled.

Ancestry visas (through grandparents) are only for commonwealth nationals. USA is not a commonwealth county.

Tnavon thanks for the help.

She was born is Essex. I have read the UK visas website and am still confused about some things. It seems that if your born before 1983 less options are available.

Does it matter that I am the only one left over here (USA).

Kindest Regards,

Shaun

Law was changed last year so you can still qualify.
