Dependants join Principal applicant in UK later

Post by buzz_dilli » Sun Apr 18, 2010 5:16 am

Hello folks,

Am wanting to apply for Tier 1 General visa in the near future, in the process of putting my docs together now. The plan is to apply for myself for now, and the family will join later. Here are some questions that come to my mind.

1. Assuming i applied now and got through, would it be okay for me to apply for the dependants after i land in UK, say 3 months after i get my stamping?

2. Same scenario as in 1. above but the dependants join me in UK on a visit visa and i apply for 'em once the year is past.

Appreciate inputs from the forum members here.

Thanks !!

Yes, you can apply for dependants at any time after you have been granted the Tier 1 Visa. But bear in mind that if you apply within the first year of your stay here in UK then the maintenance is £2800 for you and £1600 per dependant. On the other hand after a year it is £800 + £533 per dependant.

2. Same scenario as in 1. above but the dependants join me in UK on a visit visa and i apply for 'em once the year is past.
Any application for Tier 1 dependants has to be made in country, and same as the answer I gave above.

Hi ali_hsn,

Thanks for taking time to reply. Yes it does clarify the question for the most part but clarification will make things a bit easier.

So just for confirmation then, even the Tourist visa application for dependants would have to be made in country and thus does not follow the usual course? And secondly, if they were already holding tourist visas, they can still travel to UK right?

Let me put it this way : Your dependants can only apply from their own country for initial application. If they already have visit visa, they can come visit you but eventually have to go back to get residence visa. On the longer run, the more you wait for their application the longer is the wait for ILR.

Super, thanks for the clarification once again! Helps to see things clearly. And thanks for pointing about the ILR wait factor as well in the longer run.

Cheers!
