Entering the UK

Post by tereshchenko » Mon Nov 21, 2005 8:08 pm

(note: this question is purely theoretical and has no connection to real persons  )

1. I'm applying for UK visa (after receiving HSMP permit), I have passport which expires in 7 months. Will I get a visa (provided that everything else is OK) ?

2. Let's imagine I got visa, now... will I be able to enter UK for the first time when my passport is valid only for 5 months?

P.S. Obviously I applied for a new passport, but it is longer then expected...

I recall from earlier posts that you are facing delays getting your Russian passport renewed and you fear that with the time delay your HSMP approval letter might get past its expiry date.

You can try submitting your application with 7 months to go. Worst case scenario, they will ask you to apply again with a fresh passport. My understanding is that you need to have atleast 6 months on your passport to travel. Can someone else confirm that?

Which means that I will have to apply for HSMP again, right? :(

Not neccessarily. Should your new passport come before the expiry of your approval letter, you can apply for EC immediatly.

Call me Alex

Nope, this is not a solution - I still have 6 years left until German citizenship

I called the British embassy and they don't see a problem with getting a visa. However they have no idea if I'd be allowed to enter the country... ?
