What happens when...

Post by Mohammad24 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 8:04 am

Hi,

What happens when one parent is British, and the other isn't? If they have a baby, and the baby is born in England, will the baby automatically get a British passport?

Does it make a difference if the baby is born outside the UK?

Thanks. :?:

In scenario one child is British by Birth and able to pass on it's citizenship to it's children.

In scenario two the child is British by Decent and unable to pass on it's citizenship.

Passport is not automatic, you have to apply for it.

Thank you for your reply.

I had no idea at the bold part! It really does make all the difference then, doesn't it?

So if the baby is born in England, I'd need to get the birth certificate and apply for the passport...are there any costs involved at all?
