French schengen VISA

Hi

I am planning to travel in Europe for 15 days. I am here on a student VISA which expires on jan 15th 2011. And when I visited the french embassy page..it says that my UK visa has to be valid atleast 3 months after my travel.I am planning to travel from september 30th to 14th october as I am not free before that. so will they give me a VISA? Also can I change my flight tickets once I get my VISA? as I am still not sure of my travel dates...and with a single entry VISA.. can I go to other countries of schengen area?
