Dependent Visa

Post by sangz » Sun Aug 22, 2010 10:29 am

Hi,

We (husband and self) are planning to move to UK from Singapore and i am planning to apply for HSMP visa and for my husband to join me as a dependent and find a job in UK. How should we go about doing this?

If my husband finds a job before that will he be able to get a permit instead of travelling as my dependent. are there any disadvantages with his applying as a dependent.

HSMP closed in 2008.
See also Working in the UK for detailed information about (economic) immigration categories currently available. See also VFS Singapore. Dependents are allowed to work in the UK. This said, economic migrants and dependents are not allowed to take up training posts as doctors or dentists.

Yes, if the employer sponsors his employment. Look for information on Tier 2 (General) under the "Working in the UK" link I have provided above.

Hi, thanks for the super quick response. Some follow on questions:
if my husband finds another job in um, will he be able to convert the dependent visa into permit? If he accumulates enuf points in future, will he be able to apply for hsmp

No one can predict what the rules will be in the future, but under current rules one cannot change from dependent to PBS category from within the UK but needs to travel to home country to apply for EC as a PBS migrant.

Better not to, as

Hi,
Thanks. Wanted to check if it is possible for me to apply for hsmp now and a few months later for my husband to apply as a dependent if required. The question therefore is, is it possible to submits two seperate applns, one for my hsmp and later for my husband's do if required from outside uk.

Also, if my husband gets a dp, is it possible for both of us to travel together to uk or should I first go and then for my husband to travel?
