Forward Planning

Post by ccpimax » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:40 pm

Hi All

After reading many posts i feel this is a great place to get advice so here goes!!!

I am a British citiizen who is engaged to a Ugandan national who is here on study Visa valid until end of 2011.

We are planning to marry next summer and have applied for a COA (but still waiting)

After which we intend to apply for a FLR (m) and this where I need your advice.

I have a personal bank account in which my salary is paid and Joint account with my fiancee.

Will it matter that my salary is not paid through my joint account.

Also my personal account has a £2000 authorised overdraft (since my student days) which I use regulary at the end of the month.

Will I have to show both bank statements and will my overdraft matter??

Just trying to plan ahead to ensure I have all the correct documents

Many thanks in advance

Cxx

Any particular reason why that application was made? CoAs are going to be abolished either at the end of this year or early in 2011 .... well before the planned marriage date.

No, there is absolutely no requirement for a couple to have a joint account at all, and it does not matter that your salary does not go into the joint account that you do have.

Appreciate that the financial test is that is merely that it needs to be shown that the visa applicant will not need to claim certain public funds. As long as that is clear the financial test will be passed.

I'm not directly disagreeing with the good advice John has given you but I would be wary of your overdraft. Although this is an approved overdraft the UKBA can at times take the view that by using this to the limit every month you are unable to exist on your income alone. If for example the bank withdrew or reduced limit on the overdraft, you would be at a financial disadvantage.

Application for COA was made before I realised it was going to be abolished

I don't use my overdraft to the limit regularly but i do use it. Mainly as i don't get paid until the 6th of esch month and have a few bills that come out around the 28th of each month which I can't change.

Thank you both for your replies.
