Orginal Certificate

Post by ak47va99 » Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:44 pm

Hi,

I have passed out my Btech in 2003, I dont posses my original degree certificate as I didnt take it at that time, i have my professional certificate and consolidated mark sheet from the University. I am 29 years old now, I contacted the University they said it would take more than 4 months or more for issuing an old candidate. can I apply for the UK tier 1 visa without this, as my birthday is in March. so I am worried if I wait I would lose my age points which are very crucial for me.

Can any one help on this, as it is very urgent for me please

Thank you
Abhirami

You may be able to submit an academic reference / transcript...
92. The original certificate of award must always be provided unless the applicant is awaiting graduation having successfully completed their degree or the applicant no longer has the certificate and the institution who issued the certificate is unable to produce a replacement. In which case he/she should send:

ii) An original academic reference from the institution that is awarding the degree together with an original academic transcript.

93. If the applicant is awaiting graduation but has successfully completed his/her degree or no longer has the certificate and the awarding institution is unable to issue a replacement, he/she should send an original academic reference from the institution that is awarding the degree together with an original academic transcript.

94. The academic reference from the institution awarding the degree must be on the official headed paper of the institution and clearly show the:
• applicant’s name;
• title of award;
• date of award, confirming that it has been/will be awarded;
• and either the date that the certificate will be issued (if the applicant has not yet graduated) or confirmation that the institution is unable to re-issue the original certificate or award.

The academic transcript must be on the institution’s official paper and must show the:
• applicant’s name;
• name of the academic institution;
• course title;
• and confirmation of the award.

95. If the applicant cannot provide his/her original certificate for one of the reasons given above and is claiming points for a qualification with a significant research bias (frequently doctorates) he/she may not be able to provide an academic transcript. In these cases we will accept an academic reference alone. The academic reference must include all the information detailed above.
I'm not sure if "unable to reproduce" is the same as "it will take 4 months to produce," but it's better to produce an academic reference than no supporting documentation at all.

Plus, by the time you turn 30 there won't be any more Tier 1 (General) visas.

Thank you very much for the reply

For original transcript can my consolidated mark sheet would be enough?

Academic reference: I have my course completion certificate issued by the college, and can get a letter on the college letter head(original) from the Principal as well as the HOD, would these be enough?

Please advice..

Thank you,
Abhirami.

My advice would be to get a letter specific to this case. Perhaps contact a course director or professor that you were close with and explain your situation. Ensure their letter meets all the requirements laid out above.

I would assume the academic transcript could be any letter on official paper with the following information:
The academic transcript must be on the institution’s official paper and must show the:
• applicant’s name;
• name of the academic institution;
• course title;
• and confirmation of the award.

Hi

I had the same issue and this is what I did. I have done BMS from Mumbai University.
As per the ukba website in case degree certificate is not there then you need 2 documents, an Academic Reference letter and an Academic Transcript both from the university.
I got the academic reference letter easily from the controller of examinations and their letter format was also as per the requirement.
However I could not get academic transcripts from Mumbai University as it does not issue it for undergraduate courses.
I then took the academic transcripts from my college and got a letter from the deputy registrar of the university stating that the university does not issue transcripts and they are issued by the respective colleges.
Hope this helps

Cheers

Oh and I forgot to mention

1) Provisional degree certificates are not acceptable
2) Marksheets are NOT academic transcripts, transcript is a summary of the marks of all the years of the course. Ask your university, mostly all universities issue it on request.
3) Ensure all your letters are on official stationary with stamp and sign
