Visiting EEA countries

Okay a simple question which I have found different answers so maybe an expert can clarify what is the right answer....

My wife is a PR and we wish to travel to other EEA countries. Does she needs to apply for a visitor visa or the fact that she is a PR of an EEA country removes that need?

Have read all over the net some information saying yes she needs and some saying no she doesn't for 90 days.

Can someone give me or direct me to the law if there is anything out there about this subject?

Technically, she doesn't need it if travelling together and in possession of proof of marriage and the Passport with PR card. However, IN PRACTICE, and to avoid occasional misinterpretation by the border police (depending on which country you wish to travel to) you better get a Schengen visa. It will be issued free of charge to your wife with supposedly minimum documentation required.

If you travel to France/Belgium/the Netherlands by Eurostar, for instance, there shouldn't be a problem (go on their website for more details Q&A) as they are familiar with the law. However, if you fly to other EU countries, check their countries' embassies for more info.

Most of the countries are getting better now.

The shehgen visa is "free" but we do not live in London and it costs us £80 (since we need to go to the embassy twice) in travelling. Not a big deal but a pain in the neck just for a visa which makes not a lot of sense to be required.

By the way is there any document legislation which supports this scenario of a PR visiting EEA coutries without a visa?

If I only had the link (it certainly is somewhere hidden in this forum)... But yes, the EU comission released a document some time ago stating exactly that. Unfortunately, that document is not legally binding (and I believe it says so at the very beginning).

BTW, a few (getting fewer because of the introduction of fingerprint sampling) offer postal application under certain circumstances. I believe the German embassy still allows full postal applications, i.e. bothways.
