Was my grandfather in crown service?

Post by caspar » Thu Feb 17, 2011 12:05 am

I think the answer is no, but I am unsure how to confirm.

I asked this question on another board and it was suggested I ask here, so here goes. Thanks to anyone who has input.

My father was born in 1948, in australia. His father (my grandfather), was born in england to english parents and was an officer in the australian army. (1940-1957, rank of major at discharge). At the time of my father's birth, my grandfather was deployed with the british army in malaya.

I believe that he comes under crown service as a 'designated service'. I am however unsure if it qualifies, in terms of "citizen otherwise than by descent" due to the fact that he was recruited in Australia in 1940. (Am I correct that the United Kingdom in 1948 meant only England, Wales, etc. )I am struggling to confirm what applies and what does not as it is obviously not 'typical' crown service.

Regardless, i am unsure how I would prove this.

Thanks for any help!
