WP dependent – classify overseas student

Post by Kalugampitiya » Sat Apr 15, 2006 3:25 pm

I entered the UK as student in Sep 2003 . then my husband, two children entered in Dec 2003.
Then I have switched to WP in June 2005. I have got 5 years WP visa until 2010 and my dependent as well.
Now my two children about to start uni this year and next year. Both of them going to do medicine. They both classified as overseas student. I have to pay nearly £120,000 for each and which is I can not manage.

Please help me?
1. What is the best to do for my children education?
2. If I send them EU country or India for their MBBS, would this effect to getting ILR for my children. They really need to go UNI in UK which I can not have enough money. Specially do med. I can not disappoint them.
3. My husband has been working under one employer nearly 4 years full time . Will this help my husband to get ILR. After 5 years in 2008
4. can I switch into tire 1 in new system and get the ILR after 2 yeas. I am qualify to tire 1 point system.
5. if they going to uni after normal qualifying period 2010 elder has to wait 4 years and younger 3 years.

Please help me, this is really stressing me out.

The only thing I know for certain is you have to be present and settled in UK for three years to qualify for home fees.

I know it's hard - we are struggling but managing.

Sweden offers free education but obviosly in Swdeish language.

Hi Wanderer,
I have been emailing lots of unis. All of them been telling Qualify for home student is 3 years PLUS ILR in my daughters pass port.
If they studied in Sweden. Will this effect to my children qualify period for ILR?
Any help highly appreciated.

Well they would have been EU resident for that time but in UK and presumably in whole EU (since harmonisation of rules seems the goal) time on student visa is not counted toward ILR.

You;d need to cantact Swedish version of IND for more info.

Personally I'd stay in Sweden, much better than Uk!
