Must spouse's name be added in main applicant's passport?

Post by user_name » Mon Jun 20, 2011 10:09 pm

Hi,

I am planning to apply for Tier1 G dependent (entry clearance) visa from India soon after the marriage.

Is there any requirement to make any change (like Name/Address change) in the passport of the Tier1 holder and/or the dependent after the marriage but prior to filing the application?

Is there any requirement to add wife's (dependent's) name into husband's (tier1 holder's) passport?

Even if it is not a requirement, will it be a good idea to add name as a proof for (subsisting) relationship?

Please advice.

Thanks.

No.

Assuming one adds spouse's name in passport but some time later the two individuals divorce, will the spouse name in passport prove "subsisting relationship"? Conversely, can those (married) individuals who do not add spouse's name in passport claim to be single - just because the spouse's name is not mentioned in passport?
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Thank you very much sushdmehta!

May I request you to give some comments on my first question, please?

As you probably know, there is a custom/rule to change the wife's Surname/Lastname after the marriage in Ration Card, Electoral Card, etc... This will effectively change the wife's address to husband's address.
Are such changes required to be done in the wife's passport before applying for the dependent visa?

Thanks again.

No changes required! neither adding spouse name nor address change.

Dependent (spouse) visa is issued based on marriage certificate.

I have learnt that EU countries expect to see spouse's name on dependent's passport. I would say, its always good to have spouse's name on passort.
