When can I apply for ILR

Post by OCEAN » Sun Jul 17, 2011 12:38 am

Please can anyone give me advice as no one seems to be able to give me a definitive answer.

I am a South African currently living in the UK. I arrived in the UK in 2005 on a working holiday visa. In 2006 I applied and was granted a 4 year UK ancestral visa. In 2010 (prior to my 4 year visa expiring) I applied for ILR but was informed that I needed to live in the UK on a ancestral visa for 5 years, so my application was rejected. Instead I was granted a new 5 year residency visa (valid until 2015).

I have now lived in the UK for 5 years (4 year UK ancestral visa and 1 year residency visa).

Am I now allowed to apply for ILR, even though I still have four years remaining on my residency visa????
