Help with dependency on Ancestry visa

Post by birdy2 » Sat Oct 22, 2011 2:42 pm

Hi all,

I've been ploughing through the paperwork for the dependency on an ancestry visa. My husband has an ancestry visa and I currently have a Tier 2 which is expiring soon so I will be going back to my home country (also a Commonwealth country) and applying for a dependency to his visa to rejoin him in the UK.

I have a couple of questions:

1) I definitely have to fill out the same form as those with ancestry have to fill out, correct? i.e. VAF2. (ref: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... -students/ ).

2) The form is extremely vague: what documents exactly do I need for this? Is a certified copy of my husband's passport enough? If so, how do I do this certification process?

3) Will I need to get my biometrics done again? They already have them from my T2 visa.

4) What if my husband is an independent contractor for a company outside the UK? (but paying tax etc. within the UK). What sorts of proof of employment do I need from him?

5) What do I put in section 9 of the VAF 2? the form says "see guidance for more information" and the guidance says "put anything you think relevant" (paraphrased). Do I need to include all the ancestry proof that my husband provided for his visa application, or is the presence of his passport/certified copy of passport enough?

Thanks so much - I find the lack of documentation about what I'll need a bit annoying on the home office's part! :(

1. Yes.
2a. Copy of personal details pages of your spouse's passport and copy of the passport page on which the (visa) vignette is stamped. Whether these copies need to be notarised or not must be enquired from the local VAC / BHC in the country where the application is to be submitted.
2b. Evidence of your spouse's personal income from his self-employment. Depending on how he derives his personal income from his self-employment activities, this may include payslips, dividend vouchers, personal bank statements showing transfer of income from business account to personal account, letter from accountant certifying personal income, P60, etc.
2c. Evidence of accommodation (e.g. - tenancy agreement, documentary evidence of home ownership, etc.).
2d. Evidence of available finances to fulfil maintenance requirement - This can be from you / your spouse - evidence of employment, regular income, available funds (no fixed amount required - just regular availability).
3. Yes.
4. Depends on how your spouse derives personal income from his self-employment (on lines of examples cited in 2b).
5. Use only if there is "any additional information" relevant to your application that you may wish to include (e.g. - that you are employed in the UK and will be returning to work upon being granted leave).
Life isn't fair, but you can be!
