Tier 1 Success being unemployed?

Post by santosh_kalluri » Tue Nov 15, 2011 3:35 pm

Hi Guys,

Has anyone successfully applied for a Tier 1 General extension being unemployed for > 1 month pls? I am unemployed for the last 3 months (been attending interviews and waiting for employers response) with few rejections due to short term visa validity and bad market situation.

- Could you advise if you used any print outs from jobs websites to show all the jobs matching your skills?

- Did you also write any cover letter and mentioned that you are unemployed?

- Anything else to be aware of (any questions they would ask etc) or any preparation needed?

Thanks a lot.
P.S: I am going for a PEO @ Croydon next week.

As far as I am aware, the Tier 1 eligibility process is earnings driven rather than employment driven. If you have earned enough income to obtain the required points, your application will be successful (most likely assuming no other complications in your case). You do not need to have worked continuously for 12 months, as long as the number of months of the chosen 12 month cycle gives you enough points, you will be fine. It might be worth going through the Policy Guidance document to make sure you understand all the rules.
