SET (M) Application

Post by Hyskoa » Mon Jun 16, 2014 4:35 pm

Hi All,

Couple of days ago I had sent the application for my wife by post (my wife was granted 2yr spouse route before rule change). However, I just realised that I foolishly calculated my adequate maintenance wrong.

I am paid weekly in cash by my employer. after deduction of taxes etc I am paid £247.

I also claim child benefit for 2 children which is £33.70 per week paid in my account every 4 weeks.

When filling out the application SECTION 8. It asked how much income we are receiving per month.

I foolishly multiplied my wages by 4 to make one month which comes up as £988 and just assumed that I was being paid £134.80 child benefit per month. So total earnings per month £1122.80.

We are living with family rent-free, and we do not need pay council tax.

For adequate maintenance it is

£113.70 per week / £492.70 per month for couple
£17.45 per week / £75.62 per month family premium
£66.33 x 2, per week / £287.43 per month for each dependant child

£263.81 per week / £1143.18 per month left over after deducting rent/mortgage and council tax.

I have £280.70 weekly / £1122.80 monthly

As you can see, by multiplying by 4 for one month I do not make the adequate maintenance. But if you break it back down to weekly earnings I do.

Obviously had I multiplied my weekly earnings using 4.33 weeks in 12 months as opposed to only 4 weeks, then I would not miss the target.

Do you think the caseworker will notice what I did wrong and correct my calculations so showing that I do in fact meet the requirements correctly when checking our application, or will they just go with the wrong monthly earnings I provided?

Am I worrying too much?

Thanks for the reply Amber.

I feel a little more confident now that someone has reassured that I may have over worried.
