Your child is not a British citizen yet - the child can be registered as a British citizen after ONE of the parents obtains permanent residency (PR).karols wrote:Hi guys,
I am an EEA citizen with Residence Permit (not Permanent Residence) in the UK. So is my wife.
Our child has just born and I wonder if we can get the UK citizenship for her on the basis of Residence Permit.
And if not, how to do it when we get Permanent Residence after 5 years of exercising treaty rights in the UK? Do we have to register the child or just apply for the passport?
Should we get Residence Permit for the child as well?
Thanks.
Karol
Well then apply for Polish citizenship for the child - is that possible? I don't know about residence permit for the child, but I don't think it is necessary. Anyway, after one of you obtains PR, the child can be registered as a British citizen.karols wrote:We are Polish citizens. We have been and worked in the UK for 2 years.
Thanks a lot!

In that case, once you have clocked up five years working in the UK you become Permanent Residents automatically. At that point, you can register your child as a British citizen. (ie around 2010)karols wrote:We are Polish citizens. We have been and worked in the UK for 2 years.
