English language requirement

Post by KA941 » Tue Jul 07, 2015 11:17 pm

Hi guys,

Apologies if the question has been asked and answered before.

My question: If I have uk university degree which I used in previous tier 1 applications to satisfy English language requirement, can I use the same to apply for naturalisation application? Or do I have to have uk naric confirmation to satisfy language requirement

Many thanks in advance

Your UK degree certificate alone will be enough to satisfy the English Language requirement.

No, the degree certificate is enough.

Many thanks for the information

The only thing that is confusing and bugging me is what it says in the application form and the AN Booklet. I quote

"1. Have passed the Life in the UK test; AND EITHER
2. a. Have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification; OR
b. Have obtained an academic qualification deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised standard of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the United Kingdom and
(i) UK NARIC has confirmed that the qualification was taught or researched in English or
(ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the UK or a majority

So the way I read it is that if you dont have B1 CEFR (English language assessment), regardless of where your degree is from, you still have to have the UK NARIC confirmation. as it says in point (i)

Or is it me reading and interpreting it incorrectly?

any clarification would be highly appreciated
Thanks
KA

Um, yes it's you misreading/misinterpreting.

UK degrees are covered by clause ii)
or (ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the UK

Ok
But why not by clause (i)

If you read 2b - they say the word "and" meaning (what I understand) is degree on it's not enough and either (i) or (ii) should also be met. Any thoughts

As you say, for a degree-holder, it's clause (i) OR (ii) that applies; so choose to use clause (ii) if you studied at degree level in UK.

I have highlighted the relevent part in red. UK NARIC only applies for overseas degrees that have been tuaght and reaserched in English in comparison to the UK degree. Hence it is comparison of overseas degrees to the UK degree to show it meets the standard.

If you have a UK degree, then NARIC is not required as then it is the same as trying to compare a UK degree to a UK degree, which is pointless.
