Why employees would be hoping for a lower minimum is really beyond me.
Anywho, have a look at the current official guideline (not web articles) and, more importantly, the specific rates for YOUR SOC code.

By all means let your sponsor know that you're expected to be paid at an experienced rate in the near future. The sooner they're aware of and actioning on it, the less it will be an issue when you have to extend your visa...
Again, if you're being sponsored, it should mean you're valuable enough for a company to go through all the motions. Use it to your advantage, don't let them treat you like cheap labour.
