Is it necessary to give bank statements to support family visa apllication?

Post by Westindieman » Tue Dec 17, 2019 10:20 am

My sister in Jamaica has requested I send them documents for her and her grown up daughters visa application for vacation. Covering letter advising they are to stay with me and I am supporting them while they are here for a month is easy. However I am uneasy with the request for bank statement as it is a joint bank account with my partner. Is this necessary for the application? If so is it possible for our personal documents to be sent separately by us and attached to the application? Is there any other way of the application being successful without the personal bank statements. Advice please.

Yes, it is important. How else do you show your ability to support them without recourse to public funds? The account statements in combination with your payslips will serve as proof of financial capability.
Back in the days when paper docs are sent to HO, people could get the application reference, write a letter and send such 'sensitive/personal' document to HO by yourself. Not sure how this works in these times of online application.

Why would payslips from a UK resident be required for a visitor visa???

No. Maybe the application even ask more details about those personal documents.

It depends on the individual circumstances.

I never sent bank statements or payslips to my parents-in-law, since they are more than able to finance their travels. If you are the one paying for the trip, then yes, you will need to show proof of your income.

In the invitation letters I sent, I only ever stated my relationship to my in-laws, why they would like to come visit us (grandchildren, etc.) and that I have ample place for them to stay with me for the duration of their visit.

My documents for them were invitation letter, copy of my passport, proof of address, copy of my tenancy agreement and a letter from my landlord stating that he has no objection to my parents-in-law staying with us for a few weeks.

The only bank statements supplied were from my parents-in-law's side.

He states sister asking for cover letter reading he is supporting them for their one month stay. If supplying bank statements, then in my direct experience, gave payslips to show what payments/income get that gives the confidence to state capability to support them for the one month. No delays no queries, visa was granted.

Thank you very much for your reply. My situation seems very similar to yours, I am not paying for the flight and my invitation letters states they will be living with me.
