Naturalisation Certificate Name at birth

Post by subjectnature » Wed Apr 30, 2025 8:15 pm

Hi! I am applying for my first UK passport.

The name at birth if different section of my naturalisation is missing my middle name. This is my maiden name. example: AAA BBB CCC. On the certificate it only shows AAA CCC

The name itself is correct which is my married name AAA CCC DDD. And matches my current valid passport.

I used my maiden name to enter the passport therefore I have to submit it.

Will this matter? Do I need to have the naturalisation certificate changed??

What name did you use when you applied? Name at birth doesn't matter if you changed it (eg via marriage).

I used my married name on my application. It's the same name on my current passport and main name on the naturalisation certificate.

Just to clarify. I used AAA BBB CCC (married name) on application, current passport and naturalisation certificate.

But my name at birth if different on my naturalisation cert is AAA BBB (Maiden name which is missing my middle name)

Do I need to get a new certificate?

Yes. The current certificate doesn't match your passport so you wouldn't be able to get a UK passport. As it was their mistake you can request a replacement free of charge.

Sorry. The main name on naturalisation certificate does match my passport.

It's the name at birth if different that is missing the middle name.

Is it your national birth certificate which is "wrong"?
That wouldn't matter - you don't need to produce your birth certificate for a British passport.

No

Basically my maiden name is DO RE MI
My married name is DO MI FA (This is reflecring on my current passport and main name on naturalisation certificate)

In our country when you get married you take your surname and it becomes your middle name.

So in my naturalisation certficate, my name at birth if different is just DO MI (middle name is missing)

I was still using my maiden name when I entered the UK. With the name DO RE MI om my previous passport. As I am sending my prevuous passport when apllyingnfor my firsy uk passport I am just nervous that they will find the discrepancy.

I think cases like this are rare here on the forum.

Knowing how sensitive names are in this process, I believe it's better to ask for the name at birth on the naturalisation certificate being corrected to match your previous passport to avoid any issues when applying for your first British passport.
