Sending Passport and Birth Certificate for non UK born children

Post by alialhoni » Tue Jun 17, 2025 5:04 pm

Hi

I am preparing an application to claim child benefits for my children who were born abroad. I heard that I will have to send their original non-UK passports and birth certificates to the Home Office as a part of the child benefit application. Is there any way to avoid sending their original passports? Maybe verifying their passports at the job center? Any ideas, please?

thanks

If the originals are asked for, you need to send them.

Child Benefit Application: Would sending certified copy of child passport be accepted?

Post by alialhoni » Sat Jun 28, 2025 7:57 pm

Hi

I am applying for child benefit for my kids who were born abroad. As such, I am now requested to send original birth certificates and passports of my kids to HMRC to proceed with my application.
I am trying to avoid sending original documents. I asked the job center, they said the can check the documents and give me certified copies (certified by the job centre) which I can send.
I am a bit skeptical whether this would be acceptable especially since the child benefit application clearly states that I have to send original documents. What do you think?

thanks
