Questions about stamp 6 and re-entry visa

Post by nospringonion » Thu Jul 17, 2025 3:27 pm

Hello,

Does anyone have the stamp 6 and re-entry visa application experience?

Stamp 6 seems to be simple, just sending the non-Irish passport and the naturalisation cert or Irish passport. How long does it take to get passport back in reality?

What documents are needed for re-entry visa based on stamp 6? How long the visa is valid for?

I asked in the immigration portal via queries. They said:
"How long the reentry visa is valid for? Will it be a single entry or a multiple entry visa?
Re-entry visas are usually granted in line with your passport expiry date."

However, I'm not sure if this is really true, so want to ask here to see if anyone has experience.

BTW, does the re-entry visa need a real travel plan? e.g. flight tickets? If yes, does it have to be paid or a dummy one is enough?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Same as stamp 6 application, submit query in portal and you will be given an appointment date to attend GNIB. They will give you a re-entry visa on the spot with the same expiry date as your passport.

Thank you!

Today I went there as per appointment. I learned that for stamp 6 holders, we don't need to provide any travel plan/tickets/etc, even though the email says so. The officer just takes the visa form, photos, passport and that's all. Then they give the passport back with the visa in a few minutes.

For emergency travel for non-stamp6 holders, they need to use travel plan/tickets to prove the emergency and the officer will make a decision whether giving a visa or not.

I am also interested in the stamp 6 and re-entry visa. From what I understand, there is no sign of citizenship obtained or why stamp 6 is granted, only a permission with a date, right?

Same question for the re-entry visa, does it have any word stating that you are a dual citizenship holder?

Many thanks in advance!

Irish immigration officials will recognise stamp 6 on sight. Non-Irish immigration officials topically refer to TIMATIC (Google it if you want more information) to look up what visas mean. Stamp 6 is listed in TIMATIC as denoting Irish citizenship in a non-Irish passport. So it doesn’t specify dual citizenship as such, but it will be clear to anyone using the reference system that dual citizenship is held. Citizens from countries that don’t allow dual citizenship have had dual citizenship revealed via Stamp 6; and such countries are often vigilant for it.

Yep, that all makes sense. It would be easy for them to look it up if they knew this was a stamp 6. I am just curious if they can notice that it is a stamp 6 from its appearance.
