Please can you tell us:

-Your nationality
-The EEA country where your resident permit is from?

An what did they say when you told them that their very own web page says otherwise? How did they explain this contradiction?

The UK does not belong to the Schengen agreement, therefore YOU NEED a visa to enter Slovakia, as Slovakia belongs to the Schengen agreement.

As you're married to a slovak citizen, the visa is free for you and normally they should issue it to you very quickly.

That's irrelevant in this case. The only questions here is: how does Slovakia implement EU law and specificially Directive 2004/38/EC?

That could be indeed the problem though the information on the embassy's web page does not seem to exclude their own citizens. It may be worthwhile for the spouse to try to contact the Slovakian Ministry of Interior. After all, they are responsible for the border control.

What 86ti said is true. Althought as a bolivian citizen you need a visa for Slovakia (because Slovakia is in the Schengen Area), you also have the right of free movement because you are travelling with your wife. See the article 8 of the document 86ti was refering to in spanish

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... 048:ES:pdf

In conclusion, althought you would not need the visa because you're travelling with your wife, I would suggest you to double check with the embassy this. The problem is that many countries seem to interpret this directive in their own way.

The relevant articles would be 5(2) and 5(4).

I checked the slovak embassy in England. It clearly says (as you said)

"Holders of the „RESIDENCE DOCUMENTATIONâ€

I would also suggest to have a good look through http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... T#FIELD_SK.

I would recommend you take your marriage certificate with you when you travel. And some proof that the EU national is working in the UK.
