Is 25K enough salary in UK? please share your views!!

Post by siv123 » Sat Jan 28, 2012 10:27 am

Dear everyone,
I have been offered a job in UK with a annual salary between 18-25K. This Job is in Dorset, London. I don't have any experience of living in UK. Do you think it is enough to survive in UK?. My spouse might not be able to get any job right away. Please give me some advice. Your reply will be highly appreciated.

Siv.

Well done with the job offer siv123!

Could you just clarify where the job is though please as Dorset and London are two different areas of the country and are a couple of hours and a good 100 miles apart. The cost of living between the two places does differ too.
Please don't private message me or e-mail me for free personal advice - you are just wasting your time writing something that won't get answered.
Anything written here shouldn't be construed as being formal advice given in a professional capacity.

The average salary in the UK is £25k. London is a very expensive city to live in, and to try to live with the salary you have been offered, requires a lot of discipline and budgeting. Keep in mind there are people earning even less than that.

If you are willing to "survive"and perhaps struggle until your wife finds employment - very difficult at the moment- then take the chance.
Life is short, so let's get moving!

If I choose to live in Dorset will 25K be enough then?

Plenty of people survive on less. i would suggest you look around at properties in your chosen area to see how much rent is likely to be on this website:

You can also calculate what you will earn after tax and national insurance by using this website

Well, it is a huge difference between Dorset and London. With £25k you should be bringing home around £1600 after tax and able to have a quid to spare, once all bills are paid for.

Once again, lots of people live with much less than that, but I bet you want to improve your living standards, that's why you have to be conservative with your budget and spending.
