changes in life in uk to be expected

Post by VN » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:01 am

Hi,
based on this Cameron's speech in October 2011
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/oct/1 ... -crackdown I have no doubts that in few months time we may find out that the Life in UK will be changed
I applied for ILR JR and I haven't passed the test as I wasn't required to do so.

My question is, can I pass the test let's say in the next few weeks, without having received the papers back from border agency but before any changes take place?

Any thoughts on this?
thanks

it isn't a difficult test. I followed http://www.hiren.info/life-in-the-uk-test/1

and was out of test center in 5 mins.

I know it's not difficult, that is the very reason I would like to pass it in a couple of weeks time, before I actually receive the passport back.

it will be amended at some point in the nearest future to include some info about uk history. obviously, if I have to, I will learn and pass it, but I could do with less headache in my life at the moment, so I'm eager to do it ASAP.

not sure they will allow me, though, since all my IDs are with HO

As you already suspect, you'll need to submit an ID.

you can use your Driving license as an ID if you wish so

unfortunately, I'm not a driver, so I don't have a license
my husband can though

I sent them an email asking if I can pass the test with a copy of my passport and the confirmation letter from HO, where they confirm that they have received my application
I suspect their reply would be to wait till I get my papers back

I *presume* there will be a transition period between which both the tests will be valid. also any significant course change won't happen without sufficient advance notice.

which is what you should do. other than this speech from the PM in October, there hasn't been much else about the LITUK test and no indication it is going to change imminently. I think you are making an issue out of nothing - just wait for a decision on your ILR.

and what if they change it and say you have to take the new test instead!

can they do that??? that would be utterly unfair! the test results have no expiry date, no they mention anywhere that you have to pass it within specific time frame before you apply for citizenship, to make sure you pass the latest one
at the end of the day, how am i supposed to know when they are planning to change it... I pass the test when it suits me, since, as mentioned, there are no restriction or guidance on when this needs to be done.

I am being slightly facetious however the point i am making is that you have read one article on the guardian website and have gone into a panic about taking the test whilst you are still waiting for you ILR and will have to wait at least a year before applying for citizenship. If they change it as has been suggested in this speech, then it will only be to include different sets of questions, not necessarily to make it any hard. They haven't changed the test since it was introduced so there is no precendent for it. I think you are causing yourself stress for no reason.

yes, I can see your point and I agree...
the main thing now is to get the ILR, because despite hoping for the best, I can't predict the outcome of their decision... that's probably the source of my main stress at the moment
Thanks :)
