As per the guidelines, you cannot apply for extension 3 months before the visa expiry and once COS is assigned you have to use that COS within 3 months. I hope that makes cleararikans wrote:Thanks again manci,
What I'm trying to understand is, can my sponsor release a CoS for my extension anytime, regardless of the end date of my current visa?
Many thanks for your kind help!

page 39, when to applyarikans wrote:David, thanks a bunch!
This is the answer I was looking for. Could you please let me know the link to the guidelines that includes this rule? I've spend some time in the border agency web site, but failed to find the relevant doc
Kind regards

You cannot apply for extension 3 months before the start date in your COS , which would be the expiry date of your current visaarikans wrote:Thanks David,
It appears I've missed that bit.
The section you've referenced is about the earliest and latest dates of the CoS to be assigned though. Maybe I'm failing to see it, but do you know where is the doc/section that sets the 3 month limit related to current visa?
Kind regards
Arikan
Yes they can.arikans wrote:What I'm trying to understand is, can my sponsor release a CoS for my extension anytime, regardless of the end date of my current visa?

Any reason why you felt the need to post this in a topic that is almost 5 years old??come2save wrote:I had been struggling with the question in the topic for long until I my extension was finally approved last week. So I would like to come share or rather verify the answers provided by the forum gurus previously.
1. You can apply any time up to the day preceding the expiry date of your current leave. (manci)
2. You cannot apply for extension 3 months before the start date in your COS - usually this would be the expiry date of your current visa. (david1955)
3. But if you do apply more than 3 months before your current expiry date (my case 6 months!), you have to remind your HR to put an earlier start date so it is within 3 months of the date COS assigned.
Hope this helps
