English Language Requirement FAQ confusing?

Post by tier1o » Wed Dec 30, 2015 6:15 pm

Hi All,

I have just gone through English Language FAQs in this forum, questions are answered by Sushmedtha - Great work, However, the following section is very confusing and I would request Sushmedtha to correct/edit/add more info to make it more clear.

Q8: What can/may the following two statements:
1. You can no longer use ESOL qualifications as proof for citizenship applications.
2. From 12-Nov-15, we will only accept English language qualifications from the Home Office approved list of acceptable qualifications.
mean if the exemption under "confirmation that you met the English language requirement, on or after 28th October 2013, in order to obtain settlement" still stands?

It means that anyone applying for naturalisation based on an English language test taken on / after 12-Nov-15 cannot rely on ESOL qualifications or non-SELT examinations or SELT examinations taken at un-approved test centres.
English Language FAQs

I am struggling to understand this part.

You then jump to Nov 2015 which is not relevant to October 2013 statement. I think you need to correct or explain this further in the FAQs.

My understanding is that people who used ESOL Entry Level 3 on or after 28th October 2013 are still exempt. They don't need to pass the new tests. Whether it is from approved centre or not.
Comments are welcomed.

Edited, to make it (more) simple.

Q8: What do the following two statements, published subsequent to Novemnber 2015 changes, mean and who do they affect?
  • 1. You can no longer use ESOL qualifications as proof for citizenship applications.
    2. From 12-Nov-15, we will only accept English language qualifications from the Home Office approved list of acceptable qualifications.
a) If you have met the KoLL requirement when applying for settlement between 28-Oct-2013 and 11-Nov-2015 then these statements do not concern you. Ignore them!
b) The statements are for the attention of, and affect, any non-exempt person applying for naturalisation based on an English language test and taken on / after 12-Nov-15. Such applicants cannot rely on ESOL qualifications or non-SELT examinations or SELT examinations taken at un-approved test centres.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!
