It shows that they are processing residence card that were received prior to Jan 08. This means that they are 6 months behind. If I go to the UK will it take me 6 months before I can start to legally work? This seems to be the process that takes an unbelievable amount of time.

Thanks for your help again,

I guess I should also mention that I don't need a travel VISA to the UK as nationals of Paraguay are exempt from this.

Thanks,

Then it may be possible to travel and enter without an EEA family permit under 11(4) and subsequently apply for a residence card.

Thanks a lot, how long does the application for the residence card take? Once in the UK before I could start working?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/eucit ... ropeanlaw/ at the bottom. Legally the 'card' must be issued within 6 months but this and other fora are full with complaints that it takes longer, in some cases much longer. The problem is that some (many) employers and job agencies are afraid of illegaly employing people and thus want to see the passports with the visa.

The UK home office will eventually need your passport to be able to issue the residence card. You don't have to apply for the card right after you entered the UK. In fact it may be better to wait a little because you need some documents that you won't have from the very beginning (proof of residence, pay slips, etc.). Some people obviously don't send their passport with their applications but rather wait until HO explicitly ask them for it. But try to read some of the threads here related to that problem and you will maybe find better advise there.

(Actullay, you don't even have to apply for the residence card as it merely documents the rights you have anyway. But you may run into trouble when you leave and re-enter the country.)
